Second step – get some good food stocked in the fridge - fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, farm eggs and fresh farm meats. Buy ORGANIC when you can.
Store bought vegetables and fruits – WASH THOROUGHLY and scrub skins. You can wash in a salt-water or baking soda solution (10% salt/baking soda solution) to remove some/most pesticides. If you can scrape a knife on the skin and get a waxy substance coming off the fruit onto the knife, PEEL it and throw away the peel.
Spices to use on your meals:
Turmeric – mix in and sprinkle on all your meals. There is also a recipe at the end for Golden Milk, which is another way to ingest turmeric.
Garlic – fresh garlic, minced dried garlic – add to all your meals/food preparations. Some people can eat cloves whole.
Ginger root – fresh from the supermarket – peel off skin, and chop up to add in soups, stews, stir fry, potato dishes, really anything. Can also use ginger powder on foods and teas.
Apple Cider Vinegar – add to salads with a little oil (extra-virgin olive oil or your fave), cook with ACV, pour onto rice or meat dishes, or just take a shot before dinner.
Cranberry – fresh or dried berries, juice. Add berries to yogurts, oatmeal, smoothies, muffins, or just eat them.
Teas: can buy from stores, or buy herb and steep with infuser.
Dandelion Root tea, Ginger & Lemon tea, Turmeric tea, Peppermint tea
Other Herbs and stuff:
Milk Thistle Herb – Grind into a very fine powder and mix in with foods (yogurt, mashed potatoes, wheat germ, oatmeal, etc)
Candied Ginger – eat a small piece before meals
Dandelion leaf & flower – pick leaves and flowers early in the season and add to salads, soups, stews or teas. Later in the season the leaves may get a bit more bitter.
Fresh Lemons – Squeeze onto everything. Lemon water is great for both liver and kidneys. Drink 8 oz glass good water with pieces of lemon (wash peel very well).
Bitters shots before meals – will cover at a later session
Coffee – in moderation has been shown in studies to help detox liver; also a diuretic and helps clear bowels.
Cranberry Juice – least amount of sugar possible
RECIPE FOR GOLDEN MILK
Golden milk is easy to make at home. For a single serving of golden milk or about one cup, simply follow this recipe:
Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup (120ml) of an unsweetened milk of your choice
• 1 tsp of turmeric
• 1 small piece of grated fresh ginger or 1/2 tsp of ginger powder
• 1/2 tsp of cinnamon powder
• 1 pinch of ground black pepper
• 1 tsp of honey or maple syrup (optional)
Directions:
1. To make the golden milk, simply mix all ingredients in a small saucepan or pot and bring to a boil.
2. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes or until fragrant and flavorful.
3. Strain the drink through a fine strainer into mugs and top with a pinch of cinnamon.
Golden milk can also be made in advance and stored in your refrigerator for up to five days. Simply reheat it before drinking.
