Choose Well Which Path You Take
"I have never seen a person grow or change in a constructive
directionwhen motivated by guilt, shame and/or hate."
- William Goldberg
"Temperance is moderation in the things that are good"
and total abstinence from the things that are foul."
- Frances E. Willard
Life can and does hit us with people, events and situations which can turn out to be anything from annoying to damaging. How destructive unwanted hits to our comfort, stability and safety is significantly influenced by the nature of our response.
Man’s inhumanity to man is legend. If I curse God for allowing it, I lose the faith that has shored me up and comforted me in the worst of times. If I blame and hate and seek revenge, I then become one who now has the tools to be inhumane. If consumed by fear, I enter a blackened state which seeks survival by any means handy; thus, creating another dark tool.
Who I am matters. Retaining who I am is more important than what happens to me. If I let ugly people, events and situations make me ugly, I have lost who I am. Inhumanity wins.
I have learned:
Love is more resilient than hate; faith is more healing than fear.
Love is the balm which heals our wounds and brings us into the light.
In the light we bloom. When we bloom, we more fully feel love.
When in bloom we love ourselves and others more fully.
When in bloom we shine, becoming a light for others to heal and grow.
